It is said that he was offered the role of Spider-Man in 2002, but he passed it on to his friend, Tobey Maguire as he thought Tobey would do justice to this role.

Before Aaron Eckhart, the role of Harvey Dent from the movie 'The Dark Knight' was offered to him, but due to his busy schedule, he turned down the role.

Mel Gibson - Thor

Very few people might know that he was the first choice for the role of Odin in Thor. When he was asked if he has ever been offered any role in a superhero movie, he said, "Yeah, a long time ago, to play Thor's dad."   

Olivia Wilde - Guardians of the Galaxy

She was offered the role of Gamora in Guardians of the Galaxy, but she refused it for unknown reasons and finally, the role went to Zoe Saldana.

Joaquin Phoenix - Doctor Strange

He turned down the lead role of Doctor Strange from Marvel Entertainment and when asked he said "I have said no to right people a few times in my life, and my reason for saying no was simple, I wanted to spend some time with my family."
