Gadgets to Help You Fall Sleep & Get Up

Sleep is very important to maintain health, of course. It helps with children’s mental and physical health and also keeps the body’s immunity strong. Plus sleep is delicious oblivion; a marvelous feeling of being safely cocooned in comfort. So it goes without saying that getting a good night’s sleep is vitally important. Here are some gadgets that will help:

Sleep mask

This is not just a common or garden variety of sleep mask. It dims the light to help the person go to sleep and then gradually brightens the light to help one wake up naturally. There is a lot of evidence to show that light positively impact the body’s circadian rhythms (the body’s internal clock).

Light ‘alarm’

Many of us hate the sound of the alarm early in the morning. For those that do, this light alarm clock may be just the thing. This is an alarm clock that simulates the sun rising. The natural light helps the body wake up as nature intended. Plus there are natural sounds that help one awaken feeling more relaxed. There are different light modes and also an FM radio mode if required.

Calm app

This one is available for iPhones and Android phones and is currently hugely popular with influencers and celebs. This is the meditation and sleep app that helps to lower stress and anxiety. It offers guided meditation, masterclasses by experts, soothing nature sounds, relaxing music, breathing programs and even bedtime (sleep) stories read out by people like Idris Elba, Laura Dern and Stephen Fry. This is supposed to also help break bad habits, improve relationships and enhance focus and concentration.

Blue light filter

There is evidence to show that blue light emitted by screens disrupts the body's circadian rhythms and makes it difficult for the body to wind down and sleep restfully. With so many still working and studying from home, most of us have more screen time than is healthy for us. Screen guards with blue light filter and anti-glare features relieve eye fatigue and help improve sleep quality. These are available in the form of eyeglasses as well as screen film.

Bose sleepbuds

This gadget helps you tune out. It cuts out the noise of a snoring partner, loud neighbours, the blaring TV etc.; anything that keeps you awake. The Bose Sleep app works in conjunction with these earbuds to play relaxing sounds to help a person fall asleep and uses noise-masking tech to help one remain asleep.

Air purifier

For some of us, it may be dust, pollen, pet dander and other allergies that disrupt sleep. Sneezing, a runny nose and so on can make it very difficult to get a good night’s rest. There are portable air purifiers that can be moved from one to another room or larger ones that may be more difficult to move around. There are various gadgets that claim to help improve sleep quality. However, it is important to choose the right one based on the reason you have difficulty falling and staying asleep.
