After the fame and adulation that justifiably came her way after her medal at the Rio Olympics, Sakshi Malik has other exciting plans; this time on the personal front. Another famous female wrestler of India, Geeta Phogat has several claims to fame including stellar shows at international levels and the singular distinction of having a film made on her and her family. She also has some exciting news on the personal front.
It was decided before she even went to Rio to win a medal and become a household name in India. Sakshi Malik will marry Satyawart Kadian soon says Sakshi’s brother. Interestingly Satyawart is himself a wrestler who competes in the 97 kg category and is two years younger than his wife to be. He won a silver medal in the 2014 Commonwealth Games and is the son of wrestler and Arjun award winner Satyawan who has his own Akhada.
Satyawart was also the first to congratulate Sakshi when she won her bronze medal. ““My Sweetheart #SakshiMalik <3 You have made us proud." He wrote on her Facebook wall. According to Sakshi her betrothed is very supportive of her wrestling and considers her dreams as his own. She thinks of him as a good friend who will help her and believes that marriage will have no negative impact on her wrestling career.
She made history by becoming the first Indian woman to qualify for wrestling at the Olympics and she is also India's first ever gold medal winner in wrestling at the Commonwealth Games, Geeta Phoghat’s life is soon to be immortalized in a movie. She had put her marriage on hold for the Rio Olympics but according to reports she will marry her beau Pawan Kumar later this year. Pawan is also a wrestler and competes in the 86 kg category. He has won bronze at the Commonwealth Games and and the two met at a wrestling meet a year or so ago when Pawan fell for her. According to some reports, Geeta also has a tattoo of Pawan's name on her arm.
