A snow-covered vista may appear beautiful and pristine and majestic but it can be rather hellish for those trying to survive in those freezing conditions. Each year, bitter cold wave conditions create a social media kerfuffle. Remember the Mpemba Effect? This year we had the Polar Vortex bringing all-time low temperatures to North America, so of course we had people tweeting with #PolarVortex2019. It was all about frozen noodles, exploding flush tanks, frozen eyelashes, frozen clothing and more:
It appears serene and lovely but people are literally freezing their butts off right now. Experts say that the current extreme cold is a result of the weakening of the Polar Vortex, which is linked to climate change.
Everything freezes… including plug sockets, apparently.
Well perhaps crack and break would be more accurate than ‘explode’ but we now know that this can happen to a flush tank!
Chicago has experienced some of its lowest temperatures ever and noodles can go from steaming to frozen in about a minute.
Eyelashes, eyebrows and other facial hair can all freeze after a short while spent outdoors. That is literally cool!

You know how some people make vodka ice cubes? Well right now, some people don’t have to bother with freezers.
