Sucked Into an MRI, a Plane Engine and Other Gruesome Ways to Die

Some people die in their sleep, peacefully. Others die of old age and infirmity, yet others by way of lingering disease. Yet others are gone in the blink of an eye. Then there are some who die some of the most gruesome deaths. Recently a man died by being sucked into an MRI machine – a truly horrible and gruesome way to die… among others.

Sucked into an MRI machine

Rajesh Maru was supposed to get an MRI scan. He was carrying an oxygen cylinder and the negligent staff told him to enter the room along with the cylinder. The massive magnets of the MRI machine pulled in the patient, whose hand got stuck in the machine. There was an oxygen leak which caused the patient to bleed massively and to bloat up. He died a few minutes later in the emergency ward!

Sucked into an airplane engine

The engine of an aeroplane is tremendously powerful and is therefore never switched on before the plane is ready for taxi and everyone is safely out of the way. However, something altogether different happened in Mumbai on the Hyderabad bound flight AI619. Ravi Subramanian was working on the ground when the plane pushed back to reach the airstrip. He got sucked in and died instantly.

Dying to demonstrate window strength

Toronto lawyer Garry Hoy was so confident of the strength of a window that he threw himself against it while he was on the 24th floor. He was right, the window glass did not break. Nevertheless, the window popped out of its pane and poor Hoy plummeted two dozen floors to his death.

Death by decapitation

Boris Sagal was shooting for the TV movie World War III, when the accident occurred. He and some others had just landed in the parking lot when he walked into a chopper's tail rotor and was partially decapitated. Emergency surgery was performed but he died hours later.

Death by decompression

Edwin Coward (British, 35), Roy Lucas (British, 38), Bjørn Giæver Bergersen (Norwegian, 29) and Truls Hellevik (Norwegian, 34) were all divers. They all died a gruesome death by exploding into many small parts because of an explosive decompression.

Death by deodorant

A 16-year-old from Oldham, UK was a normal, healthy boy; but obsessed with his personal hygiene. So much so that he would cover his entire body with deodorant at least twice a day. Various toxic gases built up in him and caused a heart attack which killed him.

Stabbed by a cockfighting bird

This was something like poetic justice. In Tulare County in California, Jose Luis Ochoa was at an illegal cockfight where birds with spurs attached to them were made to fight till the death. A bird’s spur injured the man in the calf. Within hours he was dead.

Crushed by a cow

João Maria de Souza was killed by a cow. Not by being kicked or butted or impaled by horns. The cow fell on him through his roof. The cow escaped from a nearby farm, climbed on to the roof and fell through. The cow survived; poor de Souza didn’t.

Death by snakebite – after decapitation

Chef Peng Fan in Southern China chopped off a cobra’s head. 20 minutes later, as he prepared soup from the body of the snake, the severed head of the cobra bit and killed him.

Death by chocolate

No, this is not our fave dessert preparation. It is about the literal death of a person who fell into a vat of chocolate. Vincent Smith II fell into a vat of melting chocolate and was knocked out by a paddle churning the chocolate. Not a sweet way to go!
