Schools Reopen after 18 Months and the Tweeple Are Emotional

We could debate the wisdom of reopening schools (or the lack thereof) in terms of the health public health situation. But there is no doubt that not being in school has been bad for kids – their education, their social development and even their mental health. We could argue that COVID is still here; that #SchoolsReopen is not a good idea because cases have only plateaued and not disappeared. Or we could argue that we have to restart educational institutions at some or other point and now is as good a time as any.

Normalcy?

A lot of things are returning to ‘life as before’ – including schools.

It has been tough

The quality of education imparted has been poor in the online format. This has been so in spite of teachers doing their very best.

Kids are hesitant

After having attended classes from home for such a long time, going back to school can be intimidating.

Used to different ‘classroom’

Kids were used to wearing what they wanted and doing whatever they wanted while ‘in class’. The reality of ‘attending’ in-person classes will change things dramatically.

It will all be unfamiliar

Kids have forgotten what it was like to be in class, under the eagle eye of the teachers. Teachers? Who?

Some students want to go back to class

There are many students - particularly college kids - who want to go back to in-person classes because it is now a matter of their future.

Happy parents?

Some parents see the lockdown as some sort of bonus; an opportunity to spend more time with their kids. Others are a little fed up with the overdose of kids being around 24x7.

Too fed up?

Some parents may be a little too fed up; managing work from home, home and kids.

Expectation

Versus reality.

Kids are not happy

This is going to be difficult for very young kids who either haven’t ever been to school or don’t remember much about school because it was only for a while and so long ago.

Basically this

These two little cuties say it best when they say they are willing to ‘sacrifice’ their education to fight the pandemic.

Especially these guys

Backbenchers, historically are not too interested in what is being taught in class and may be even less pleased.

Some kids…

…Are already wondering about winter vacations.

True story

Most people are in the wait-and-watch mode when it comes to schools reopening. They want to see what others are doing before deciding what to do.

Uncertainty

What are the hygiene and distancing protocols to be followed? What other precautions are being taken. We aren't sure yet – little wonder that students are so doubtful now that #SchoolsReopen
