The International Defence Exhibition and Conference is currently on in the UAE at Abu Dhabi; the only such event in the Middle East and North African (MENA) region. The biennial day event is one of the biggest such events in the world. The five day tri-services event which started on 17th February 2019 is an important platform for demonstrating the latest technology for land, air and sea capabilities.
The IDEX takes place at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, which is a state of the art event space. The exhibition is spread out over about 133,00 sq. mt of space. Over a thousand indigenous and international exhibitors are participating; putting up their products in 12 indoor exhibition halls, atrium and the concourse.
Exhibition stands, a media centre, exhibitor chalets and other outside displays are also a part of the IDEX. As such it is an event that has gained a reputation as a tourist destination as well as a business destination for buyers to get in touch with manufacturers and sellers.
Since any defence purchase has to be a carefully considered one, manufacturers set up live demonstrations of their crafts and equipment to help people make choices. Each day of the exhibition would feature choreographed displays on water, in the air, and on land. Apart from the general tank, military craft and aircraft displays, private demonstrations can also be held.
The Naval Defence and Maritime Security Exhibition or NAVDEX is the segment of the exhibition that features local and international exhibitors specialising in naval, maritime and coastal security technology, equipment and crafts. This segment is situated on the edge of the dock and features on-water exhibits, daily demonstrations and visiting navy vessels.
Apart from the live demos, exhibitor’s stalls and static displays, the event will also feature conferences where key decision makers from various countries would have the chance to meet, exchange views and discuss pressing issues. This is a chance for attendees to find specific solutions for unique challenges that they may face.
This is a chance for governments and other stakeholders to discover tech disruptions that would help them. It is described as an ideal platform for fostering long-term relationships between suppliers and buyers and a way to share knowledge with friendly countries.
