President Joe Biden is dull – at least compared to his predecessor Donald Trump. He doesn’t behave outrageously or take divisive stances the way the Donald did and provides little fodder for the comic mill. Except for when he has a senior moment – which he seemed to have recently. He said Iranian instead of Ukrainian, Vice President Kamala Harris noticed and Twitter was all over it.
He wanted to say Ukrainian people and ended up saying what sounded like Iranian people (or maybe Uranian people). In the background, Kamala Harris can be seen involuntarily mouthing Ukrainian before trying to cover it up by moving around.
How is this guy president, asks this tweet.
Iranian people supposedly were like What, us?
Someone asked – is he sending aid to the right country? Or the right planet, piped up another with this tweet.
Because why not. Joe Biden is 79 and a lot of people were sure he has having a 'senior' moment.
Some felt sympathy for the Vice President, having to play second fiddle to the man some see as a doddering old fool.
The ‘idiot boss’ moment.
The many gaffes made by Trump were always unerringly pointed out and with great relish. The republicans saw this instance as a time for payback.
Some thought that Americans need a geography lesson – which they perhaps do.
Or just something that POTUS couldn’t be bothered to be careful about?
Some saw this as confirmation of what they are convinced is metal degeneration /disease.
These things happen during public speaking – it can be stressful for a lot of people – even when they’ve done it for years.
This was just a small slip of the tongue and nothing major – it is telling that opponents feel the need to latch on to something so insignificant to mock him with, felt some.
Many people pointed out that Biden has worked hard to overcome a stutter and such a slipup is hardly something that should be criticised and be humiliated for.
Clearly, yes! In these polarised times, people will pick out the most innocuous of things in leaders they dislike and then present it as justification for their dislike. So whether Joe Biden said Uranian, Iranian or something else instead of Ukrainian, for detractors it is just something juicy to trend on Twitter.
