High End Cars and the Self-Driving Challenge - Dubai Auto Update

With the high number of high net worth individuals in the UAE, it is only natural that high end cars are highly sought after in the area particularly in and around Dubai. We look at what one supercar salesman in Dubai is doing and also take a look at the what the Dubai world challenge for self driving transport is all about.

Supercars for Dubai’s millionaires

Deals on Wheels is a car dealership that caters to the discerning vehicle owners in Dubai. This is a car dealership with a showroom full of cars worth about $45 million: about a hundred luxury and sports cars. There is a Ferrari here worth a whopping 1.9 million and another worth $1.4 million!

A private collection

Started by 2007 by 36-year-old Mohamed Redha Abdullah, the dealership boasts top end names like Porsche, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Rolls Royce, Bugatti and others. While he considers these as his own private collection, these elite supercars are available for sale.

The dream

It is his dream to have the most famous supercar dealership in the world. According to Redha Abdullah, Dubai is synonymous with luxury; making this a natural setting for his business.

Dubai World Challenge for Self-Driving Transport

If on the one hand people in Dubai are into luxury cars, on the other, there is the attempt to support innovation in automobiles; particularly self driving transport. The aim of the Dubai World Challenge for Self-Driving Transport is to make one quarter of transportation in Dubai smart and driverless by 2030.

Facing the challenges of global cities

The Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) organises this event to showcase what is new in auto tech and to examine the applications of that tech for businesses and communities in the UAE and elsewhere.

Various trials and demos will be a part of the challenge

The challenge will cover marine services, last mile connection, innovation, delivery services and more; for instance applications for shuttle services such as those between public transport systems and homes / offices. Entries will be judged on aspects such as endurance, safety, environmental stability, user experience, reliability and so on.

$5 million in prize money

There is a total of $5 million in prize money to be won here. The registration for the challenge is currently open; the deadline being 1 August 2018. The actual challenge will take place later this year in October.
