The tragic events of September 9/11 changed the trajectory of the world's most powerful nation. This wasn't just an attack on the towering architecture of a leading world nation, rather a direct blow to the might and heart-line of one of the world's most loved countries. But a lot has changed since 2001. We examine some factors that have undergone tumultuous change in America on the eve of the 15th anniversary of 9/11 attacks:
This was no easy day nor an easy tragedy to let go off! 9/11 still reverberates in the heart of an average American with a hefty unforgiving blow. But the world's most promising economy, despite the initial setbacks in 2001, has fought its way back into solidifying its economic standing. A substantially increased spending on Public Health, Safety notwithstanding, which is a positive, US economy represents 20% of total global output.
Outplacing all of world's nations, USA spent a whopping $1.6 trillion on defence spending in 2015. This is bizarrely, around 37% of the total expenditure it incurred on varied domains of spending. Times have changed and USA, tightening security norms within its region has dwarfed other developed economies such as China whose military spending is nearly one-thirds of America's.
In the aftermath of 9/11 tragedy- it was clear that America wasn't going to stay pigeon-holed, buckled under pressure. At all levels- domestic, international, and national security- America has worked up majorly toward initiating a preventive war strategy. It is more prepared than ever today to take preemptive military action in order to thwart potential terrorist attacks.
Despite being rocked by a slate of scandals post 9/11, including the infamous Petraeus scandal and myriad enquiries into its manipulative methods of interrogation, the big daddy of the espionage world continues to defend America's security and liberty with pride and efficiency. Among its major successes was the eventual capture of Osama Bin Laden and its strategic upping of security in volatile regions such as Afghanistan and Middle East speak of America's continued inclination to entangle with world's affairs
Created in the wake of the 9/11 tragedy, the newly formed TSA is tasked with instituting new security procedures and managing screenings at every commerical airport checkpoint in the US. In an era marked by rapid uncertainty and unexpected terror strikes, TSA's formation and rise is seen as a positive by security analysts.
Post 9/11, we've experienced sporadic rise of German, Russian and other economies and despite China's ominous economic resurgence, a facet never too keenly admired by the west, the USA continues to partake in key global dialogues that matter, such as - the Peace debate between Israel and Palestine, initiating lenghty bi-lateral ties with rising economies of India and Europe whilst also meddling with Pakistan's defence development.
It exists. And, it's true. America, among the world's most admired and deeply cosmopolitan nations rose with an indifference in the post 9/11 world. The fear of American Muslims being targeted within the US and being looked as potential terror- related elements is a bleeding reality that the nation has witnessed with an unmitigated rise.
It is one thing to rack up external security measures but completely another to increase domestic surveillance by a colossal measure. The post 9/11 world has seen an unprecedented rise in domestic surveillance by an America reacting to minutest of security loopholes or even a faint internal threat with extreme caution and volatility. The Snowden saga was a major rub off from the increased e-mail, telephone and even fax-spying.
America continues to charm with magnetic power. It's student populace largely comprising of Asians and Europeans has remained undettered in its warming up to US education. But while some of its own people seem indifferent to America's popularity, one can safely say that America's corporate juggernaut has once again set the ball rolling in the nation's favor. New economic czars like Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg continue to weave American flag high in the world
You can jade them temporarily but cannot defeat Americans. At a towering height of 1792 feet, the fifth tallest building in the world, the Freedom Tower that looms large where the much loved Twin-Towers once spoke to the skies is a proof of America's redemptive powers and ability of reinforcing its emotional, economic and architectural strength in the modern world.
America, despite myriad national and domestic concerns is clawing its way back to once again becoming the world's much loved power. As a country, you can do little to undermine its undaunted spirit and courage
