In A Fantastic New Move Delhi Police Launches App For The Elderly And Senior Citizens Of Delhi

In times fraught with an incessantly rising rate of crime, here especially in Delhi, it is the elder or senior citizens who suffer the most. Thefts, burglaries and on other occasions, outright abandonment by their own, the elderly straddle with life's unforeseen challenges. And therefore the latest initiative by Delhi Police to step in and aid the elderly is a move that has nipped the air with a vibe of positivity. Here is what is the Delhi Police's latest contribution to ensure safety of the elderly in the capital city.

1. An app for the elderly

On October 1, Delhi Police launched a mobile app for the senior citizens to enable them to reach out to police in dire needs and moments where they feel threatened on account of personal security being marginalized.

2. A tech gift on the International Day of Older Persons

October 1 is widely celebrated as the international day of older persons. Amidst times marred by unruly nature of crime, the latest offering by Delhi Police is nothing shy of a great gift for the senior citizens of Delhi.

3. A bit about the App

With an aim to avoid needless hype surrounding the launch of the latest app for the senior citizens, the Delhi Police has only revealed some basics about the mobile app. It has been shared that the app will serve as an 'aid' to the elderly in times of distress or in case of medical emergencies. The app is therefore, aptly titled 'Delhi Police Senior Citizen'.

4. The mechanism of the App

It has been reported that through the app the elderly citizens will now be able to send an SOS through the tech-periphery that will be immediately transferred to the SHO and the concerned beat constable.

5. Generating the SOS alert

Only those registered with the app shall have the facility of pressing an SOS button for an emergency call to directly connect with the senior citizens helpline '1291'. This further leads to the second and final step: An alert will be generated for the 24*7 control room which will monitor the location of the 'distressed' and affirmative action will be taken in the form of an automatic text message being generated for the area SHO, beat officer and a pre assigned contact'.

6. A welcome move

It is no surprise that when the tyranny of crime increases, it is the elderly or senior citizens who feel most distressed. Therefore, in times such as these, the induction of a new-age app for the assistance of the elderly is indeed a reason for glee and celebration.

7. The changing perception of Delhi Police?

In the past, for reasons often justified and on other occasions, blown out of proportion, the Delhi Police have come under immense criticism, generally due to a collective public perception that identifies them with a lethargic force, moving with adept inactivity. But the latest tech offing by the Delhi Police is a steadfast and swift move that will keep the integrity and image of the police in good stead. It is indeed a welcome move and a sign that augurs for a change in perception.
