Student of the Year 2 Trailer is out & the Memes Are Hilarious

Remember Student of the Year, that utterly improbable film about some mythical school where kids spend all their time being rich and cool; spend all their time in dance, sport, romance and drama? Well, a second edition of what appears to be more of the same is here in the form of Student of the Year 2. We have yet another bunch of super cool kids – played by Tiger Shroff, Tara Sutaria, Ananya Panday Abhishek Bajaj this time – prancing around in designer clothing doing everything but study.

Student of the Year 2 trailer

So there’s a school, which looks like some British royal estate. There are students with impossible bodies and clothes that cost the earth. Tiger Shroff’s character Rohan appears to spend most of his time jumping from buildings, getting beaten up and beating up people. Then there is Mrudula or Mia (what? Mrudula? Must have cool nickname!) played by Tara Sutaria, and Shreya played by Ananya Panday fighting over one guy. And there is Abhishek Bajaj, presumably the malcontent who clearly will not be the student of the year.

Some loved the trailer

A lot of people are looking forward to an escapist teeny bopper drama film peopled with good looking, glamorous people and a wildly implausible story.

Some not so much

Of course an equal amount of people thought that the trailer is terrible; promising an equally bad movie. That said, the movie will still do great business, because this is the sort of thing that most people want.

Better than SOTY?

Obviously there were comparisons between the first and second part Student of the Year. Some said they like part 2 more simply because of Tiger Shroff – Eye candy anyone? Of course there are those who feel that anyone who likes Shroff more than Siddharth Malholtra (who was in the first film), is fully nuts.

Or worse?

Some thought that the trailer of part 2 looked so bad, it made the first part look like a masterpiece.

Wonderwoman, Spiderman

So clearly we are to have some sort of costume party in the film

Mixing up universes

Wonder Woman is DC, Spiderman is Marvel – Keep up Karan Johar!

Doing this

So, Tiger Shroff’ character misses no opportunity to show off his athleticism: jumping, somersaulting, and swinging. This clearly is a ‘school’ with plenty of opportunities for 'extracurricular' activities.

The Zone

People noticed that he’s laced fingers with both the girls who claim to love him.  Who’s getting friend-zoned here?

Clearly not about studies

We see some highly flattering ‘school’ uniforms from time to time, but there zero mention of studies in this trailer. There is, however, something called a Dignity Cup.

The inevitable IPL reference

As RCB continue to languish at the bottom of the IPL 2019 table, this tweet indicates that this is but a small blip on the radar of cricket star Virat Kohli’s firmament.

Sajni-Gajhini

This rather cringe-worthy line inspired a lot of memes too.

Bottom line

Student of the Year 2 trailer tells us to expect a typical Hindi movie. It isn’t rocket science. We had that a couple of days back when the world learned a bit about Black Holes – that really is rocket science and we perhaps need something like #SOTY2Trailer to even out the IQ level of the universe.
