She May Be 95 & Ill but Queen Of England Is Not Stepping Down

I may think of the British monarchy as an outdated anachronism; an institution that has no relevance to modern life. However, I do have a sneaking admiration for the Queen of England – for her sheer will to ‘rule’ and basically to live. Queen Elizabeth is 95 now, recently buried a husband, has a son who is 72 (Prince Charles is an old man), just had a health scare – but all she did was cancel a trip to Ireland. She isn't stepping down as monarch just yet.

Health scare

Recently, the Queen was admitted to hospital and "preliminary investigations" were conducted according to Buckingham Palace. As a result the old codger agreed to follow medical advice and ‘rest for a few days’.

Immortality memes

She is close to a hundred years of age – is it any wonder that social media is full of immortality memes; or rather immortali-tea memes (considering the British love their tea)?

She survived the pandemic

The COVID 19 pandemic has been particularly unkind to older people – except this older person, it would seem.

Kind of impressive

Like Celine Dion’s heart in the Titanic title song, it seems she will go on and on. She's lived an interesting life – lots of stories to tell the grandkids – and great-grandkids.

Following instructions?

They’ve been saying ‘Long Live the Queen’ for a very long time – clearly she decided to take them seriously.

Next in line?

I'm not sure if this other geriatric is next in line for the throne or not (the monarchy and system of male primogeniture are past their sell-by date and aren't too interesting to me). However, people are placing bets to see who outlives whom.

Defying the predictions

People have been conjecturing for years, nay decades, gently, on when Her Majesty would either pass away or when she would relinquish the throne. Neither has happened yet and all the conjecture has been in vain.

Made for memes

Her children and their numerous offspring can wait forever – to rule. This really is a situation made for memes – is it any wonder that there are so many hilarious Queen Elizabeth memes floating around!

They come and they go

She goes on forever – she’s witnessed more history than most people on earth; heck she has been a part of history. Through it all, there has been a certain zest for life. Is it any wonder that all the immortality/ indestructibility memes get made about her majesty?

Oldie of the Year award

Recently a magazine offered Queen Elizabeth the Oldie of the Year award. With characteristic British understatement, this was “politely but firmly” declined and the magazine was sent “warmest best wishes”. Since one is only as one as one feels, the Queen felt that she did not “meet the relevant criteria”.
