Netflix and Hotstar Had a Chat On Twitter & People Were Amused

We may be in a serious relationship, said a tweet from Netflix. This prompted responses from viewers and Hotstar chimed in too. The back and forth that ensued between the two streaming services as well as well as their viewers, was quite amusing.

What Netflix India said

Netflix pointed out that hanging out with someone each weekend, eating meals together and parents being in the know, is the definition of a serious relationship.

Some were quite senti!

This is clearly a Netflix devotee who wants to be with the object of their affection 24x7. Yet another commentator said that their relationship with Netflix was the longest one they had ever been in.

Others pointed this out

Netflix is the most expensive of the streaming services; a sore point for price-conscious Indians. Some pointed out that this was a high maintenance relationship; which was hard on the pocket.

“Cheating on you”

One viewer confessed that he was a Netflix viewer but also loved Hotstar Premium (Hotstar is the freemium service which offers some shows free and offers premium shows only on paid memberships).

Hotstar chimed in

Obviously, they were happy to respond with a ‘sorry, not sorry’ tweet.

Netflix’s response

Netflix forgave the ‘cheating’ but expressed the view that Hotstar couldn’t possibly match up to Netflix.

‘Insecure’

Hotstar's tongue in cheek reply indirectly called Netflix ‘insecure’ by posting this tweet about the show. Clearly, they also hoped being in a highly visible online chat would help to publicise the show.

Just GoT?

This commentator feels that Hotstar has little to offer except for Game of Thrones which is now over, alas.

Hotstar was quick to point out other top shows that they offer viewers, such as Westworld, Modern Family, Big Bang Theory and many more.

Breaking up

While some commentators felt that most of the really good Hotstar shows have ended, others felt that this streaming service has more relevant content than Netflix.

Bottom line

While some may prefer Netflix others like Hotstar and yet others enjoy Amazon Prime the most. The bottom line is that the viewer is spoilt for choice and finds it difficult to resist the lure of on demand entertainment streaming 24x7. Meanwhile it is good to have so much choice… after all we are all free to choose a partner of our own choice; why should TV viewing be any different?
