Coolie No 1 Remake Releases And It Is Pretty Much What We Expected

You know how Bollywood seems to suffer from a complete bankruptcy of ideas? How mainstream filmmakers seem content to take tired old stories, repackage them and present them to the viewing public as brand new content? Well, Coolie No 1 one more in the repackaged genre. According to viewers and reviewers, the Coolie No 1 remake which saw an OTT release on Amazon Prime Video on 25th December, is pretty much what we would expect. The movie has one particularly far-out scene that is truly meme-worthy.

Poor fare

Some of the reviews are quite scathing. The movie has been called boring, with a worn-out formula. All the tropes of the older movie have been reused and they haven’t aged well.

Not pleased

There are viewers who obviously feel that this is one that should never have been (re) made.

A waste…

…Of time and data.

He's not Govinda

Varun Dhawan, for all his energy and enthusiasm, is not Govinda, whose comic timing shone through in the older movie feel the tweeple.

The movie has suffered in the remake

It doesn’t match up to the original; this seems to be the consensus.

Then there was this view

Some reviewers thought that the original was also unremarkable; the remake is simply worse.

Couldn’t make it through

There were those who started watching the movie. And then stopped watching the movie.

Entertaining

However, there are those who found the movie to be entertaining. The story about a poor boy pretending to be rich to get the girl has gone down well with some sections.

If you like that sort of thing

Some reviewers found the movie funny. They enjoyed Varun Dhawan doing impressions of various Bollywood actors, the chemistry between the lead pair of Dhawan and Sara Ali Khan, the remake of the hit songs etc.

#CoolieNo1

Some decided that the movie hashtag and memes are more interesting than the movie itself.

This scene

Check out this truly incredible scene where our hero jumps off a foot-over bridge, runs along the top of a train, jumps off and rescues a child. All this while everyone else - including the mother presumably - stands around and looks helpless.

Science, who?

The tweeple expressed their exasperation; some going so far as to explain why this is so nonsensical.

Whaaat?

What’s going on!

Physics, what?

Bollywood movies are implausible, this goes without saying. But do they really have to insult our intelligence, asked the tweeple.

Just stop!

Some just want Bollywood to stop making movies altogether. Most people seem to think that Coolie No 1 is avoidable, even if one takes that bizarre train station scene out of the equation.
