It would be fair to call him David ‘Reboot’ Dhawan, since he now seems to be coasting on past glory coupled with his son Varun’s current box office salability. So after films such as Judwaa 2 we are now to have Coolie No 1 – yet again. The 2020 Coolie No 1 reboot comes 25 years after the original Govinda and Karishma Kapoor starrer. Varun Dhawan reprises Govinda’s role as the coolie pretending to be super-rich. Paresh Rawal is the greedy dad and Sara Ali Khan is his daughter. The movie will be released on Amazon Prime Video on 25th December and also stars Javed Jaffrey, Rajpal Yadav and Johnny Lever.
A blast from the past – repackaged for modern consumption! Some are looking forward to the Coolie No 1 reboot.
The names of characters are changed and we had an entire woke generation after the original release but this appears to be a rehash of the same regressive tropes and puerile ‘comedy’.
If the loud and over the top hamming is supposed to replicate Govinda’s comic timing, we may be in for a disappointment.
People have good memories of the old film and no remake will ever suffice.
Clearly, this is the keep-your-brain-at-home genre of films... just like the original 1995 Coolie No 1

The movie also reprises the biggest hit from the original with #HusnnHaiSuhaanaNew. The original had the hero simultaneously romancing two women and this is more of the same. There is lots of very vigorous pelvic thrusting, and incredibly OTT outfits such as pink shorts, golden jumpsuits and frocks.
Some loved the remake.
Same old same old. Come 25th December, we shall see how much of a rehash the reboot of Coolie No 1 will be. The movie will have a digital release on Amazon Prime.
