I could say it’s a Salman Khan film and leave that statement to speak for itself or I could tell you more about the reactions Bharat received. We always knew that the film was going to be yet another vehicle for all of Salman’s Khan’s star power. The trailer also told us that this was to be an epic of Forrest Gump-esque proportions, where the journey of the individual and the country unfold before us in parallel. So is Bharat worth your while? Maybe the tweets will help you decide.
It is a Bhai movie and like so many Bhai movies, it released on Eid. To say that it had a blockbuster opening is an understatement.
As a movie critic he is usually the most uncritical of all, generous with praise and lavish with his star ratings. He gives the movie four stars out of five and thinks Salman Khan is exceptional (anyone who thinks Bhai is an exceptional actor has to be viewed with some skepticism).
The Salman fan is a different level of crazy. Their idol can do no wrong and they will willingly suspend disbelief to lap up anything that he dishes up.
Apparently the movie is rubbish. It is implausible, defies all logic and is quite simply awful.
Apparently the movie is absolutely brilliant and flawless and marvellous and deserves 500 stars (out of 5).
It is always about Salman and only about Salman. It can get a bit tedious after a while; even for the most ardent of Bhai-bandhus.
Many found the movie to be a waste of money. They perhaps thought wistfully of the three hours of their life they spent watching the movie; time they will never get back.
Women in Salman Khan movies matter little. However, some viewers took the time to notice and appreciate Katrina Kaif and Disha Patani as well. Many also chose to lament on the fact that hugely talented actors like Sunil Grover rarely get the kind of roles that his talent deserves.
The movie starts in 2010 and then goes into a flashback. The story spans a 70 year lifetime and begins around the time of partition; touching on various significant historical occurrences which shaped Bharat's epic life.
Disha Patani is Khan’s love interest but is 27 years younger than him. Sonali Kulkarni is nine years his junior, but plays his mother; mother, mind you. And this is the kind of Salman-Deification that Priyanka Chopra was supposed to have sidelined her own wedding in favour of.
So long as your expectations are realistic and know to expect an overemotional, over-the-top Salman-Khan-projection-vehicle – you may even enjoy the movie.
