Apparently, much before the announcement, selection committee chairman MSK Prasad met Dhoni during Ranji Trophy semifinal (between Jharkhand and Gujarat) in Nagpur and advised him to think about his future plans.
We don't know how much of this is true but Mr. Prasad said it was Dhoni's own decision and told the media that "He informed me when I met him during the Ranji Trophy final in Nagpur".
