Today is Janmashtami and everywhere the celebrations to welcome Lord Krishna are in full swing. It is one of the most important festivals of India and each state has its own way of celebrating this day. So, whether it is Mathura or Mumbai, let's be a part of these celebrations and say Happy #Janmashtami once more. 

1. The Birthplace of Krishna- Mathura

This is the glimpse of the land of Mathura. Apart from Rasleela and Jhanki Pradarshan today on Janmashtami, Jhulautsav is one of the exclusive events that will take place. You will find large swings placed in the courtyard of the temples on every Janmashtami. 

2. Vrindavan, Uttar Pradesh

Shree Krishna spent his entire childhood playing in the lands of Vrindavan. Hence, the whole city is lit with colorful lights and the zeal and enthusiasm among the people of Vrindavan for celebrating Janmashtami is immense! 

3. Dwarka, Gujarat

Dwarka is often believed to be the kingdom of Lord Krishna. The grand Dwarkadish temple is beautifully adorned with flowers and lighting of different kinds. Further, on the very day of Janamashtami, the prasad is made which consist of 56 items that Lord Krishna loved. It is often termed as " Chappan-Bhog".

4. Maharashtra

The Dahi-Handi of Maharashtra is famous across the country. On Janmashtami, various groups perform and compete against each other and aim for the pitcher of Dahi that is hung at the top by a string. 

5. Celebrations at Goa

Goa is the amalgam of various cultures and traditions and hence, this festival is celebrated with different practices across the state. Women of the house, put colourful Rangoli in front of their house and adorn the Krishna figurine with flowers early morning. However, chanting of Bhajans, presenting of milk and Dahi as prasad is something which is common across the country.

6. Manipur

This day is celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm in the eastern state of Manipur. Being the ardent follower of Lord Krishna, the Hindus of Imphal take part in different programmes to celebrate the day with full fervor! Various dances and music programmes are performed in the temples on this day. 

7. The ISKCON Temples

The International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) is of extreme importance. The entire society is whole-heartedly dedicated to the Lord and hence the celebration in the temples are magnificient. The celebration starts from the midnight in the temples, melodious songs, kirtans, bhajans are sung by devotees who also keep a day-long fast and pray to the Lord to celebrate his birth.
