Now that summer is well and truly over, one can venture out without the apprehension of being burnt to a crisp by the merciless sun. One can therefore partake of the many attractions of Delhi, that make this city world class.

Currently the India International Trade Fair is being held here – the variety of shopping on offer will sate the most obsessive shopaholic, the food will satisfy the gourmet and the gourmand alike and then there are cultural activities! Apparently there is to be the Auto Expo and then Book Fair and then… I can’t wait!

The history & the monuments

You cannot throw a stone in Delhi without it hitting an ancient ruin or other edifice of historical value. I plan to visit Tughlaqabad Fort and Purana Qila, revisit the Red Fort, Jantar Mantar, Qutub Minar, the Lotus Temple and much more. At leisure… like a resident instead of a tourist this time around!

Janpath, Sarojini Nagar, Laajpat Nagar, CP… the list of cheap and cheerful shopping destinations is long! So little time, so much shopping to do!

The Food

As someone who hails from Ahmedabad who had to travel a significant distance even to buy eggs, the kebabs and tikkas available everywhere, makes Delhi a heaven for foodies. The evening air redolent with the smell of grilling and frying!

The home delivery of pretty much everything

The local banias are trying to outdo each other to sell you daal at the lowest price, the hole in the wall restaurants promise free delivery sometimes with “no minimum order” and then of course there are the grocery apps and the online shopping apps all promising faster, cheaper, and better products and services.

The Metro

As someone who has lived in Mumbai for 5 years and has borne the rigors of the local trains there, the Delhi metro is like being transplanted to a foreign location. It is clean, air conditioned and the people are actually polite (at least some of the time). They form queues and keep to them even! Oh! And no parking!
