Cool Kitchen Gadgets We Could Use

As someone who knows her way around a kitchen, I often receive fulsome compliments for my cooking. There are two reasons for my culinary skills – one I am a foodie, and two, I don’t spend too much time slaving over a hot stove so cooking is not a burdensome task for me. My kitchen is very organised and is well equipped with gadgets that save time and effort for me. Here are some cool kitchen gadgets – some of which I use regularly; others that I'm thinking of getting:

Hand blender

This is an invaluable tool for when the mixie jar is wet, too big or when you don’t have the right blade. This is useful for making cakes, shakes, mayo, chutneys, chopping, blending and even making cocktails. I even use it when the white sauce or soup is lumpy or when I want the daal a smooth pouring consistency.

Halogen oven

A few years back I wanted to buy an air fryer but decided that would be too small and I decided to opt for this instead. Like an air fryer, this uses a heating element and a fan to cook food quickly and evenly, using less oil. A halogen oven is bigger, and I have used it for making snacks, tikkas, cakes, cookies, pizzas and more.

Sandwich maker with removable plates

This is better and more versatile than the usual sandwich toaster. The interchangeable plates let you make sandwiches, paninis, grill other items and even make waffles. The plates are nonstick and removable, therefore much easier to clean.

Egg boiler and steamer

You get other types of egg boilers as well. However I have my eye on this kind of steamer cum egg boiler. This kitchen gadget lets you steam and poach other foods as well.

Chopping board cum wash basket

This is a cleverly designed item that I have wanted for a while now and have decided to place an order for. It is a collapsible tub with a drain that also becomes a chopping board or a storage basket as and when required.

Chef’s basket

I came across this recently; and I remember my mother using something similar when I was a child. She used to use it as a fruit basket, but now I see that it can have many other uses: such as for deep frying, boiling veggies or pasta, blanching palak and more. When not in use, it folds down and becomes flat – that is just the kind of thoughtful design that I love!

Herb scissors

This is the sort of thing that makes me go – why don’t I have this yet! It would be so useful for chopping dhania, onions, greens and so much else besides.

Spill stopper

I am someone who always has the milk boiling over and a huge mess to cleanup, so this one really interests me. It goes on top of a pot or pan to prevent the contents boiling over and also works as a steamer. All these cool kitchen gadgets are all available online.
