‘We Were Collectively Better’ Says Skipper Kohli; Twitter Said This about India’s ‘Historic’ Win Down Under

The Indian men triumphed over their long-time foes the Australians in the first test match at Adelaide by 31 runs. Virat Kohli was understandably chuffed and Cheteshwar Pujara’s stellar performance was much lauded on Twitter. Here’s what went down:

It’s a big deal

They are calling it a historic win and Kohli is being lauded for being the guy who wins everywhere: in South Africa, England and Australia. Also this is the first time the team has won the first test in an Australian series.

Cheteshwar Pujara came good

India made a fairly disastrous start; losing 4 wickets with less than 50 runs on the board. However Cheteshwar Pujara steadied the innings; his knocks of 123 and 71 hailed to be match winning efforts.

“Deserved to win”

With characteristic absence of humility, skipper Kohli spoke to the media; saying that India was the better team collectively and that they deserved to win. The fact that four Indian bowlers managed to get the Aussies out twice, was quite an achievement, according to him and the skipper was also all praises for Pujara.

One up

This gives the Indian team a surge of confidence as this is the first Indian win in Australia since the team led by Anil Kumble beat the Aussies led by Ricky Ponting at in Perth in 2008 by 72 runs.

A good match

It was a closely fought match and a hard-won victory. Kohli’s bowlers had to work very hard to dismiss the Aussie tail. The last four tenaciously clung on before being dismissed on the final day. India finally won by just 31 runs in the end.

Importance of a good start

Indian cricket fans believe that a good start is important. Cricket lovers always manage to pull up obscure stats to make their point, don’t they?

Coincidence?

These may seem like more obscure stats for some of us; but apparently this is indicative of things to come!

This caption contest

Always known to be aggressive and volatile on the field, skipper Kohli displayed a wide range of emotions and ESPN asked the tweeple to caption each. While some thought that each of his facial expressions was one or another a variation of ‘BC’ a few thought that he displayed a wider histrionic ability than his wife Anushka.

Indian fans are happy

When it comes to cricket we wear our hearts on our sleeve. Each of us is an expert and we express our joy as well as our sorrow quite uninhibitedly.

Sign of things to come?

Most people seem to believe that the win brings good tidings of a series win; statistics show that our chances are really good!
