Kohli’s 10K, The Biscuit Trophy – Trending on Twitter

Cricket being a virtual religion in India and across the border, anything that happens in the world of cricket is instantly news. Whether it is a record-breaking feat or an oddly shaped award, Twitter is quickly abuzz with reactions. So yesterday’s India-West Indies match in Vizag was an exciting one; one that ended in a rare tie. However, it was skipper Virat Kohli's record-breaking performance that had everyone gushing. Plus there was the Pakistan Australia series that had some interested not so much in the match but in the physical trophy.

Fastest to get to 10k

The prolific Indian run-getter achieved a special milestone by reaching the 10,000 run mark in the match against the West Indies. He broke the record of a player no less than Sachin Tendulkar in the process.

Other stats

Among the players who have reached the coveted 10k milestone, Kohli has so far the best average.

Comparisons are odious

…But inevitable in cricket, it would seem. India has always produced spectacular batsmen. There was a time when Sunil Gavaskar seemed the greatest ever. Tendulkar redefined the term ‘greatest ever’. And then came Kohli who seems set to redefine the term yet again.

Mr. Consistent

Virat Kohli is India’s most consistent batsman. Apart from the fact that he is aggressive on the field and a treat to watch, he is also who digs in his heels and gets the job done.

People are just that delighted

The superlatives are flying and fans are expressing their boundless joy and wonder any way they can – as this meme indicates.

They keep getting better!

This is the list of the batsmen who got to the elusive 10k mark in ODIs. They seem to be getting faster and more prolific as time goes by. (Just by the way, there are 5 Indian names in that list of 10 batsmen.)

Meanwhile

In another part of the cricket-mad subcontinent, this announcement was made. Teams are so wary of touring Pakistan that the country is pathetically grateful that the Aussies decided to tour. Pak cricket fans weren’t however pleased with the trophy – which appears to be some sort of giant biscuit.

NOT photoshop

This sarcastic tweet assures us that this image isn’t photo-shopped; that this is, in fact, the trophy up for grabs. Another tweet had advice for the Australian team: “My advice to the Aussies would be to play aggressively", or as I like to say, to "risk it for the biscuit".

People were not pleased

There were many negative reactions to the trophy, including the view that looking at this trophy, this would be a series the Aussies may be happy to lose.

Oh so punny!

While some said that they felt like having some Tuc crackers as a result of seeing the biscuit trophy perched on the stumps, others were just thankful that the series wasn’t sponsored by a condom company!
