Kabaddi Masters Dubai 2018 Is On – Are You There?

Legend has it that Kabaddi is a game from Tamil Nadu which the Tamilar empire propagated to South East Asia via their naval trade. It is still very much a game of the Indian subcontinent. However with events such as the currently ongoing Kabaddi Masters in Dubai, this is a game that has gone international.  Here is what you want to know about Kabaddi Masters Dubai 2018:

Nine day tournament

The nine day sporting event features six sides including India, Pakistan, South Korea, Kenya, Argentina, and Iran. Beginning on 22 June, the event will culminate in the final match on 30 June 2018.  

Where to watch

All matches are played at the Al Wasl Sports Club in Dubai. All matches are relaying live in India from 8.p.m. IST. Live telecasts are available on channels such as Star Sports 2, Star Sports 2 HD, Star Sports 1 Hindi, Star Sports 1 Hindi HD, Star Sports 1 Tamil.

Inaugural event

Kabaddi Masters 2018 is the inaugural edition of the event and this is the first time Dubai is hosting an international event of this scale. It is meant to offer kabaddi fans an exciting experience, according to the Dubai Sports Council.

First matches on 22 June

Two matches were scheduled for the first day of the tournament. Iran took on South Korea in the second match. However it was the first match between arch rivals India and Pakistan that everyone had their eye on. The results of the past five matches between the two teams went India's way: at the Asian Games, South Asian Games and at AKC Iran.

India won 36-20

It was a compressive win for India in the first match of the tournament. The Indian players seemed in firm control of the game throughout. Indian captain Ajay Thakur showed the way by picking up 8 points himself.

Matches for the weekend

On Saturday, Iran takes on Argentina in the first match whereas India will face off against Kenya in the second match. On Sunday South Korea will play against Argentina while Pakistan will be pitted against Kenya.  The top four teams will face off in the semi finals scheduled for 29 June whereas the final will be on 30th June 2018.
