They say you always remember where you were, who you were with and how you felt when some significant world event happened. This is certainly true for the time when we won the 2011 World Cup. A special screen had been set up at the Air Force Institute and officers and families had got together to watch the match on the lawns. It was as close as possible to watching a match live in the stadium. It was a fantastic feeling of joint celebration when we won. I can scarcely believe it’s been ten years!
It is the stuff of unforgettable memories: the win and the party that followed.
For players and fans, that feeling – of winning at home, before a madly cheering crowd in Wankhede – priceless!
That feeling
People were reliving their memories of India’s world cup win under the leadership of M S Dhoni.

Those were different times; simpler times for a lot of people – particularly those who were students then; who now have to do some adulting.

Sri Lanka set a target of 275. After Virender Sehwag got out for a duck and Sachin Tendulkar managed only 18, Gautam Gambhir delivered with a solid 97 run knock.
It is the nature of the beast that in cricket, the batsmen receive all the attention and adulation; bowlers much less so.
One of the most beloved and respected of cricket players, Kumara Sangakara couldn’t resist that wee smile in the fact of such ecstasy.
Tendulkar played six world cups. This was his last shot at winning and it happened.

#WorldCup2011 came 28 years after that incredible win at Lords in 1983 against the mighty West Indies.
