The series started with a major upset, when Bangladesh managed to defeat India by seven wickets in Delhi in the first T20 match on 3rd November 2019. The Indian team rallied thereafter and managed to win the second match (Rajkot) and then the third match (Nagpur) to win the series.
Though Rohit Sharma lost his wicket scoring just two runs, K L Rahul and Shreyas Iyer held down the fort admirably; scoring 52 (35) and 62 (33) to take India to an impressive 174 for 5 in 20 overs.
Deepak Chahar's fine form with the ball earned him the man of the match and series awards as well as some really fulsome praise from the tweeple.
Chahar bagged 6 wickets which included a hat trick.
…Pointed out the tweeple.
M S Dhoni is given credit for believing in Chahar.
He gave away just away just 7 runs at a measly 2.10 an over.
Tweeple had a great time conjecturing upon the increased value of Chahar as a player after this.
Repeatedly now, it isn’t just the much-vaunted Indian batsmen who are seen to win the day. The bowlers also make their mark and make their value felt.
While the great showing by Chahar is great news for the team, it could mean bad news for other players such as Khaleel Ahmed, felt some of the tweeple.
Some had criticism for skipper Rohit Sharma
Sharma has a lot of dedicated fans --- they pointed out how he manages to get the best out of his bowlers.
Sharma’s fans often disregard his own personal failures with the bat – Sharma failed to fire (scores of 2 and 9) in two of the three matches.
His failure to make a mark in this series had a lot of people trolling him.
Poor Rishabh Pant came in for a lot of criticism.
The fact is that Dhoni’s wicket-keeper-batsman shoes are rather big to fill --- for anyone.
…For this.
Apart from all else, it has to be acknowledged that the Bangladesh team is never one to be underestimated; that they gave India a tough fight. It was some absorbing cricket and the Bangladesh team deserves kudos for this and other reasons --- such as playing in the Delhi smog without making this into a controversy.
