The IPL auction is something that interests all cricket lovers each year. When a player they admire attracts big bids, they feel gratified and the expert comments and the ‘I told you so’ starts. What did you predict? Here are some of the highlights and lowlights of the IPL auction, some funnies and facts:
Yuvraj Singh claimed that he had been expecting not to be picked in the first round of the auctions.
When he was picked by the Mumbai Indians he said that he was keen to prove himself in the 2019 IPL.
He is just 16; a leggie from Bengal. He fetched Rs 1.5 crores, which is the highest price ever for someone so young.
This twitterer felt that Kolkata Knight Riders seems to be bidding on every unknown player… perhaps in the hope of snagging a good bargain?
He was the most expensive player in the last auction, raking in INR 11.50 crore.
This time around, he was snagged for INR 8.4 crore by Rajasthan Royals, still one of the most expensive players in this edition.
The tweeple thought that Chennai Super Kings seemed to be bidding strangely!
Axar Patel was picked up by Kings XI Punjab for Rs 5 crores and Carlos Brathwaite was picked up by KKR for Rs 5 crores. The SRK team didn’t seem to mind shelling out the amount for the Barbadian all rounder.
Many cricket fans were really excited by the bidding process; perhaps it was the vicarious thrill of their fave players fetching large amounts. But in the end, their enthusiasm was tempered by the fact that they weren’t getting anything.
The picture in the tweet: does that remind you of someone’s head? Someone from Sri Lanka called Slinger Malinga?
In all there were 60 players who went under the hammer: 40 Indians and 20 overseas players.
Many cricket fans felt that team owners had paid altogether too much for some of the players. But then it’s their money to spend… ours is not to reason why, ours is but to cheer and cry!
