Have You Seen Harleen Deol’s Amazing Catch Yet? Everyone Else Has

Many of us would have had his video forwarded to us via WhatsApp or seen this clip on some or other social media platform. It is the few-second long clip of Harleen Deol fielding at the boundary and showing some fine footwork and remarkable presence of mind to take one of cricket’s most remarkable catches ever. While England won the rain-hit first T20 by 18 runs on Friday, this was a silver lining. If you haven’t seen her incredible feat yet, here is the catch and another ‘catch’ made by another Deol some years back:

Real wonder woman

The video was tweeted and shared by numerous people including celebs like Anand Mahindra, who expressed his amazement and said ‘move over Gal Gadot’.

Kudos

Former British cricketer Nasser Hussain also expressed his admiration for Harleen Deol’s spectacular catch.

Seen as critical

Some cricket fans see Hussain as being critical of cricket and cricketers in the subcontinent. For them, this fulsome praise is unusual.

Superb bit of work

The catch demonstrates a great deal of really quick thinking, agility and athleticism. Seen here in slow motion, we see how very amazing this catch is.

A new benchmark

Some said this is a new benchmark in women’s cricket. I would say it’s a new benchmark in cricket. Period.

An inspiration

Harleen Deol’s catch will not only go down in the annals of cricket as one of the best catches ever, it is inspiring to many as well.

The result of hard work

Taking a catch like this isn't a matter of fluke. A lot of hard work goes into this; surmounting personal fears and hesitations.

Another catch by a Deol

Different Deol and different kind of catch, but someone recalled this other, very amazing catch.

What the??

Why were four blond guys wearing banians throwing a woman (Preity Zinta according to sources) for Bobby Deol to catch? With Bollywood, you never can tell why they dream up what they do.

Pushing the boundaries

Women’s cricket is nowhere near as popular or lucrative as men’s cricket – Harleen Deol’s spectacular catch however shows us that that is where the differences end. And Satish Acharya puts it perfectly when he says – the boundaries between the abilities of men and women are ‘man’made; mostly in our heads.
