Gautam Gambhir has been an important part of the Indian batting lineup for a long time; in fact since his test debut in 2004. His illustrious career boasts many achievements; including reaching No 1 in the ICC test rankings for the best batsman in 2009. Though he played his last ODI in 2013 and his last test in 2016, he continued to play the IPL. He has now announced his retirement from all forms of the game.
He announced this most difficult of decisions with the “heaviest of hearts”: retiring from all forms of cricket after his final match which will be the Ranji match for Delhi against Andhra Pradesh.

Gambhir was a part of the Indian squad that won the first ever T20 World and World Cup. His innings played a key role in both wins. He also also won 2 IPL trophies as captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders.
Many of Gambhir’s fans will miss the man who was known to be a reliable and consistent performer; someone who had the ability to remain cool even when under pressure.
Several people expressed the view that Gambhir has been an underrated batsman, someone whose achievements, because of his quiet demeanor often passed under the radar.
Many other cricketers joined in the chorus of regret at the news of his retirement. Cricketing colleague Praveen Kumar expressed thanks for all that he learned from Gambhir as a player and as a person.
