Djokovic Claimed Australian Open Title and Twitter Tipped Its Hat to Him

Since Novak Djokovic turned pro in 2003, the Serbian has been one of the most consistent and successful tennis players in the world. He is currently No 1 in the world and recently showed his class once again by winning his 7th Australian Open and his 15th Grand Slam title. Predictably, fans went into paroxysm of delight at his latest achievement:

7th Australian Open Title

He won his first ever Australian Open in 2008, followed by 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015 and 2016 and now his seventh title in 2019. Roger Federer and Roy Emerson have won the title 6 times each before now. Djokovic breaks their record.

Serbian pride

Unlike a lot of professional tennis players who choose to play from other countries for the sake of their careers, Djokovic continues to represent Serbian and Montenegro. As such, Serbians are justly proud of him.

Proudly Serbian

Although he competed as a professional and not as his country's representative, he is seen here with the nation’s flag.

Foregone conclusion?

Though he faced a talent no less than Rafael Nadal in the final, it was a rather one-sided match. In a masterful performance, Djokovic pummeled Nadal 6-3 6-2 6-3 in three straight sets at the Melbourne Park. Clearly many fans saw the result as a foregone conclusion.

Making Nadal ‘look average’

Djokovic was clearly having a great day at the office; as he managed to decimate another one of the game’s all-time greats on the day. He made even one of the greats of all time seem average by comparison.

An amazing performance

Not only did he outclass his opponent on the day, he simply seemed unstoppable. Djokovic showed the world why he is a GOAT(great of all time) in a performance with both strategy and finesse.

Return from elbow surgery

When an elbow injury ruled out play for much of the 2017 season for the tennis star, however he came back, strong and resolute even after his surgery.

“Not too bad”

Speaking after his win, he spoke with characteristic understatement about his achievement; terming it “not too bad”.

Thanks to the team

Djokovic tweeted to say thanks to his team; the people who support the champion player.

Next is what

All that is left is for Novak Djokovic to beat Nadal on clay at the French Open and to get closer to Roger Federer's record; that of the most Grand Slams ever.
