Dhawan’s Weird Dance and Other Highlights from Recent IPL 2019 Matches

This weekend we saw a really big upset at IPL 2019, with the team at the top of the table defeated by the one at the bottom. We also saw a rather bizarre on-field dance following an attempted Mankad (which has become quite mainstream this IPL). Here is what happened in matches 36, 37, 38 and 39:

Match 36 was MI v RR

Mumbai Indians scored 161 losing 5 wickets but Rajasthan Royals got past the goalpost with five balls to spare. Riyan Parag’s 43 off 29 balls was one of the highlights of the match.

Jofra Archer

The three dropped catches by the RR player was cause for a lot of mirth – or angst, depending upon who you support – on Twitter.

DC v KXIP was match 37

Kings XI Punjab got to 163 from their 20, which wasn’t enough for the Delhi Capitals who made it with 2 balls and five wickets to spare.

Iyer and Dhawan shone for their team

Shikhar Dhawan and Shreyas Iyer were the mainstays for their team after Dhawan was responsible for the mixup that got rid of Prithvi Shaw.

Dhawan’s moves

The Mankad is inspiring reams of memes this IPL – more than one player wants in on the fun and games it would seem.

It was SRH v KKR in match 38

Kolkata Knight Riders made rather heavy weather of their 159 runs, losing 8 wickets to get there. Sun Risers Hyderabad trotted past the finish line with 9 wickets and 5 whole overs to spare.

Warner and Bairstow

Jonny Bairstow and David Warner took the attack to the opposition. They made 131 off 74 balls with Bairstow remaining unbeaten.

Russell failed to impress

Andre Russell was clearly having a bad day at the office and fans were disappointed with his performance.

RCB v CSK in match 39

This was one of the true nail-biting thrillers of the competition so far. Royal Challengers Bangalore took on Chennai Super Kings and set a target of 162. CSK lost just by one run, RCB won on the final ball of the thrilling match.

Dhoni wasn’t enough this time

MSD’s doughty 84 brought his team within sniffing distance of victory but an Parthiv Patel’s aim put paid to those ambitions.

Good enough?

Fans have already started calculations about the playoffs; about who will make it and who won’t make it past the league stage of the game. Kohli would have been delighted at his victory, but at the back of his mind he had to be wondering, will it be good enough?
