Imparting some sense of normalcy to our lives right now is the IPL 2021. The teams are playing before empty stands instead of the packed stadiums they are used to, however, for those few hours a day, one can immerse oneself in cricket and forget about other problems. In the news from IPL 2021, there was that very rare incident of a hit wicket, Chennai Super Kings finally notched up a win, and Royal Challengers Bangalore seem to be continuing their dream run.
Punjab Kings had a new jersey that didn’t seem too lucky. CSK won the toss and put PBSK in to bat, who could only manage 106 for 8.
Shahrukh Khan made 47 off 36 for PBSK but it was in vain.
He took four wickets and conceded just 13 runs in his four overs. He was also judged Player of the match for this.
With the help of Faf du Plessis (36 off 33) and Moeen Ali (46 off 31) CSK managed to overhaul the required run target with 26 balls to spare.
MI won the toss and quite unusually, chose to bat first. The openers made a good start: Quinton de Kock made 40 off 39 and Rohit Sharma made 32 off 25; the team total being 150/5.
But to no avail.
Getting out hit wicket is perhaps one of the rarest ways to get out.
This is when the batsman on strike himself causes the bails and/or wickets to fall by touching them with his bat or his body.
Though the total was not big, MI defended it successfully – in part thanks to the unforced error of a hit wicket. SRH were all out in the last over and MI won by 13 runs.
RCB won the toss and decided to bat. Glenn Maxwell made 78 off 49, guiding his team to a solid total of 204/4.
After previously lacklustre performances Maxwell seems to be in form and his former team would be missing him.
He made a splendid 76 off 34 balls.
KKR were restricted to 166 for 9 and RCB won by 38 runs to continue their winning streak in this IPL.
Delhi Capitals won the toss and decided to bowl. Kings Punjab made 195 /4 with Mayank Agarwal making 69 off 36 and K L Rahul making 61 runs off 51 balls.
Shikhar Dhawan's masterful 92 off 49 meant that DC did not have too many problems getting to the target.
DC won with 6 wickets and 10 balls to spare.
Right now Virat Kohli’s team has won each of the three matches they have played. MI and DC have won two each out of the three they have played. CSK and RR are tied with two points each currently and today they take on each other in the 12th match of IPL 2021.
