The TOI headline today read, “The Real T20 Starts Today”. The ICC T20 World Cup actually began on March 8th though. But today is India’s first match in this series. Which means that real cricket fever sets in from today and all reason, logic and adult behaviour, goes out the window. This is what will happen from now on all days when India plays and Indians suffer from cricket fever.
People? What people?
Your city might be the most crowded on most days but come cricket fever, there will not be a person to be seen on the streets. Unless they are rushing to the nearest TV set they can get to.
Shops and malls try all sorts of offers and sales tactics to attract the crowd during cricket season but nu-uh. There’s no one to be seen.
Abandoned TV remote
At home there is no question about changing the channel anymore so the TV remote gets lost somewhere without a trace and no one minds.
Everybody Loves Pizza
Who has time to cook or eat when there is a match going on! Pizza it is. No time to go through menus for any other kind of take out. Plus we may lose a wicket if we break tradition and order Chinese.
In homes where one partner is in love with the game but the other isn’t, there are slight chances of friction. But any fights are resolved as fast as possible before the game begins.
Cricket is almost religion in India and watching it with your friends and family is the only way to pray. Get caught up in cricket fever and have a good T20 World Cup!
