There is always a lot for visitors to see when they visit Delhi, the nation’s capital. Not only is the city steeped in a layered and complex history with monuments that are a testament to each historical epoch, the city also boasts some of the country’s finest and most modern museums. A new high tech museum is to be unveiled at the Rashtrapati Bhavan by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi to mark the fourth anniversary of President Pranab Mukherjee in office. The museum will offer glimpses of our freedom struggle and information about all our Presidents and their tenures in office as well as some insight into the way that the world’s second largest presidential estate functions.

Something to look forward to

If you find that museums are not generally the favoured place for kids and adults to visit in India, this museum should be a departure from the norm. The sort of rich history that our country has, deserves exhibits such as these.  Spread out over a carpet area of 10,000 sq. mt. or over 1,20,000 sq. ft, the exhibits are ranged over several levels below ground level; making this the nation’s first underground museum.  Unlike other museums here, visitors will be able to touch, feel and interact with the exhibits and get a hands-on experience of the history of our democracy.  Augmented virtual reality, 3D projection and a glass wall that functions as a two sided projection screen are some of the attractions.

This museum took Rs 80 crores and two years to put together. It has many interactive displays and virtual reality experiences to offer visitors a memorable story telling experience. The Gandhi Walk, the Hand Shadow Show (about the Presidential election process), the Presidential office replica, “Privalite” Projection, Presidential memorabilia, 3D holographic projections of speeches, interactive digital platforms, replicas of Presidential vehicles including the buggy we see on Republic Day are all part of the display.
