It is that time of the year when the much anticipated Emmy Awards winners have just been announced. The most sought after event in the world of television, Emmy's celebrate remarkable creativity and outstanding work in the business of television, garnering respect for attributing reverence for actors, screenwriters, directors and their likes. So, what did the Emmy's unfurl in 2016? Let's take a look.
From a stiff competition between the likes of Catastrophe, Silicon Valley, Veep and Parents, the winner was the writing duo of Aziz Ansari and Alan Young. They picked the Emmy for Master of None, Parents.
Kate McKinnon scorched the screen big time, winning for Saturday Night Live, ahead of Anna Chlumsky, Gaby Hoffman and Allison Janney among others. Imagine if writing a comedy series is tough, then how difficult would it be for actors to essay comic roles?
The winner who takes this one is clearly the funniest individual around. Directed by Jill Soloway, Transparent "Man on the land" created a laugh riot by winning an Emmy in this category.
Defeating a strong competition from the lead cast of Getting on, Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, Black-ish, Grace and Franky, Julia Louis-Dreyfus reigned supreme even on Amy Schumer. Truly well deserved.
This one was again a tough call for the hosts as it's believed with the likes of Transparent, Silicon Valley, Black-ish, Shameless calling it big to win, but in the end, the win belonged to none other than Jeffrey Tambor for Transparent.
Defeating the likes of everyone's favourite- Top Chef- and others, including The Amazing Race, American Ninja Warrior, Dancing with the Stars and Project Runway- the winner on this count was The Voice. Few were surprised really.
An unlikely winner as many would count, The People v/s O.J. Simpson for "Marcia Marcia Marcia" written by D.V. DeVincentis took the honors on this one.
Regina King loomed large above and clear for the American Crime over luminaries such as Kathy Bates, Olivia Colman, Melissa Leo, Sarah Paulson and Jean Smart.
The gripping "The Night Manager" featuring Tom Hiddleston, the clear favourite current Tom beside Cruise and Hanks in Hollywood was the big winner on this occasion. The Susanne Bier directed marvel left the likes of All the Way, Fargo, The People Vs O.J. Simpson behind, the latter being nominated thrice.
The widely received The People vs O.J. Simpson's Sterling K. Brown took home an Emmy for this one. The likes of Hugh Laurie, Jesse Plemons and David Schwimmer were left startled being nominated, but failing to pocket the prized win.
Many expected Sarah Paulson from The People v/s O.J. Simpson to bag home an Emmy for this one and she didn't disappoint.
Courtney B. Vance from The People v/s O.J. Simpson took home this much anticipated win and left behind a sterling list of nominees comprising of Tom Hiddleton, Benedict Cumberbatch and Idris Elba, three remarkable actors. Interestingly, Vance's rousing speech was one of the highlights of the 2016 Emmy's.
This was clearly a big win from the entire contingent of diverse categories. Mixed reactions for this one, nonetheless Sherlock: The Abominable Bride winning the Emmy for Best Television movie left Britain's top fictional detective in great stead.
A people's favourite, not too many heads turned in disbelief, truth be told with The People v/s O.J. Simpson winning this one and thoroughly deserved too, in all honesty.
Patton Oswalt for Talking for Clapping, a show that took an interesting take at plenty of topics- including San Francisco, Optimism, complications in being a comedian and a father and many more saw this year's really astounding win.
Last Week Tonight with John Oliver leaving behind famous rabble rousers including Jimmy Kimmel Live, The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, Real Time with Bill Maher won the biggie.
A truly lovable American comedy series, Key and Peele humbled its opponents, including Inside Amy Schumer, Portlandia, Saturday Night Live and Drunk History among others.
An easy one to guess if you are a fan of the cult of this particular series. Game of Thrones won an Emmy for Best Writing for a Drama Series and D. B. Weiss along with David Benioff were all smiles.
A bit unexpected, can we say! Maggie Smith for Downtown Abbey reigned over Constance Zimmer, Maisie Williams, Maura Tierney and others. Heartbreak equally for Emilia Clarke it has to be said.
You wouldn't have guessed it, or is it? Naa, we are kidding. Game of Thrones ruled this one with The Battle of Bastards winning a towering triumph with Miguel Sapochnik posing for the cameras in his moment.
Bloodline it is. It defeated the stiff competition posed by the Game of Thrones, House of Cards and Ray Donovan. As the audiences applauded, the man of the hour, Ben Mendelsohn posed with his Emmy, much to fans' delight.
This was clearly a big big win of the night. It went to Rami Malek for Mr. Robot, a sensational triumph over The Americans, Bloodline and others who all hoped that the Emmy were theirs.
