Budget 2022 was largely seen as a ‘small bang’ budget that had a big infrastructure push but little or nothing for the mango people. There was nothing for income tax payers, no relief in common goods and services etc. For some reason, people latched on to the fact that umbrellas will be more expensive as a symbol of all the things that the common folk will pay more for.
This shows what is to become more expensive and what will cost less in times to come.
Does this have anything to do with the fact that we have been seeing more unseasonal and heavier rain in recent times?
Somehow the umbrella became a symbol for all that people saw as problematic in the budget.
Perhaps people will look for natural alternatives such as these?
Like Popatlal – apparently he has a special relationship with his umbrella?

Rihanna has a song called Umbrella --- she has not endeared herself to the ruling dispensation. Connection? None.
Some of the people were just questioning the priorities of the government seeing how the budgetary allocations for education and health saw no increases.
Because of the way that the government has pursued disinvestment and has promoted corporate interests.
This government often faces the charge of promoting crony capitalism.
Many feel that the country’s decision makers are unconcerned with the needs and aspirations of common folk.
Of course, FM Nirmala Sitharaman came in for criticism – even though she is the most forthright of all current ministers. She is the only one who consents to face the press and answer real questions.
High current unemployment rates, is what hurts the youth the most right now; something that they feel has not been addressed in the budget.

Around this time each year, people transform magically into economists. Usually, everyone has an opinion on the budget – whether Budget 2022 or any other – and usually that opinion is this one.
