The trailer of Udta Punjab, an upcoming crime thriller recently launched to rave reactions from the film fraternity and the viewing public alike. The movie, slated for release on 17 June 2016 is written and directed by Abhiskek Chaubey (of Ishqiya and Dedh Ishqiya fame) and stars Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Kareena Kapoor, Diljit Dosanjh, Satish Kaushik, Atif Aslam and Imran Khan. The movie looks at a serious social problem
It is a fact that drug abuse is a very serious and extremely widespread problem in Punjab; one that is seen to result in a certain socio-economic decline. The misuse and illicit sale of prescription drugs, the extensive use of banned substances as well as the complicity of the police in conniving at this drug use is the subject matter of Udta Punjab. Shahid Kapoor plays a rock star who is clearly addicted to what appears to be cocaine. Alia Bhat will be seen in a de-glam look as a Bihari migrant in Punjab while Kareena Kapoor plays a doctor who is doing her bit against the scourge of drug addiction. Punjabi singer/actor Daljit Dosanjh plays a policeman in the film.

The power packed acting of the star cast as well as the hard hitting story of the film drew appreciative comments from the film fraternity and celebs such as Anupam Kher, Emraan Hashmi, Riteish Deshmukh, Madhur Bhandarkar and many others were all praises for the actors and the filmmakers.
Celebs and regular viewers are clearly impressed by the hard hitting trailer. The filmmakers and others have been very appreciative of the fact that the film trailer was passed without any cuts or beeps though there is quite a bit of profanity clearly used in the film, some disturbing and other adult content.
