The courts are meant to dispense justice in criminal matters and adjudicate between contesting claims in civil matters. They are called upon to interpret the law and sometimes decide on constitutional matters. However, there are times when the matters placed before the courts are frivolous in the extreme. Like when a woman sued a diet soda company when using the product failed to make her lose weight. However, this is far from the only ridiculous, baseless and frankly stupid reason for filing a suit.
A California woman had been overweight her whole life. She drank Diet Dr. Pepper for 13 years in the hope that it would help per lose weight. When she remained overweight, she sued the company because she “did not get what she paid for”.
Red Bull tells us that it ‘gives you wings’. One consumer drank it for ten years but achieved no such feathery extensions nor did he become smarter or fitter. The false advertisement claim was actually upheld by an American court and Red Bull settled out of court for 13 million dollars; even changing their advertising campaign.
A woman was in the New York subway when she saw a scary ad poster. She lost her step and fell. She sued the company responsible for the poster, asking for compensation for injuries sustained. The judge was not impressed.
Christopher Roller filed suit against world famous magician/ illusionist David Copperfield for $50 million. He alleged that Copperfield had been using his (Roller’s) godly powers to perform his magic. Again the judge was not moved and the suit was dismissed.
He was a bank robber trying to flee the site of the crime when the police officer shot him. Name of Kirkpatrick, the man made a $6.3 million claim against the Snohomish County and sued the city for injuries sustained.
An aunt (Jennifer Connell) sued her own nephew for $127,000 after her 8 year old nephew Sean jumped into her arms for hug at his birthday party. Apparently Sean should have known that his forceful hug could cause injuries.
A nursing student failed her exams twice. She sued the Misericordia University in Pennsylvania because “anxiety and depression made it difficult for her to concentrate”
A man from Missouri sued Hershey’s because packets of Reese's Pieces and Whoppers had too much air in them. Wonder what the man would think about all the chips packets that contain so much air?
