It looks like something out of a sci-fi movie about some distant planet. What it actually is, is just frozen sand! Some strange formations appeared on the shore of Lake Michigan in North America. Take and look and see why people think they look like some alien visitation.

This creature from an animated film is Globglogabgalab – I know, only because I did a Google Image search (even if I haven’t figured out how to pronounce the word yet).
Some people were convinced that some other-worldly creatures were responsible for this.
It does look other-worldly – especially with that filter.
Some wanted to know whether this was an actual natural phenomenon or some kind of doctored image.
Turns out this is real; a rare occurrence that is seen sometimes.

This person thought of a less flattering comparison – clumps in a cat’s litter box.
If those structures are created out of wet sand frozen by winds, it stands to reason that it would melt in the sun.
The forces of erosion and denudation can do strange things to the landscape over the years. Stands to reason that wind can have the frozen sand on the shore of a lake looking like this.
