Strange Land Formations at Lake Michigan, Aliens! Said the Tweeple

It looks like something out of a sci-fi movie about some distant planet. What it actually is, is just frozen sand! Some strange formations appeared on the shore of Lake Michigan in North America. Take and look and see why people think they look like some alien visitation.

Strong winds and frozen sand

This image was shared on Twitter – natural frozen sculptures created by icy winds and wet sand.

Someone added these

This looked like something out of an Anime landscape for some.

Or this

The Roadrunner Show anyone? Maybe this natural phenomenon was the inspiration for the cartoon show all those years ago?

Looks like this

This creature from an animated film is Globglogabgalab – I know, only because I did a Google Image search (even if I haven’t figured out how to pronounce the word yet).

Aliens!

Some people were convinced that some other-worldly creatures were responsible for this.

Mars!

It does look other-worldly – especially with that filter.

Is this real?

Some wanted to know whether this was an actual natural phenomenon or some kind of doctored image.

A rare phenomenon

Turns out this is real; a rare occurrence that is seen sometimes.

Reported elsewhere

This strange creation of nature was also reported by another publication.

This springs to mind!

Demi Moore and Patrick Swayze in Ghost?

Or this?

Disassembled IKEA furniture?

Art!

This looks like carefully created art, says this commentator. Many agreed.

Or not

This person thought of a less flattering comparison – clumps in a cat’s litter box.

This happens

If those structures are created out of wet sand frozen by winds, it stands to reason that it would melt in the sun.

Another natural phenomenon

The forces of erosion and denudation can do strange things to the landscape over the years. Stands to reason that wind can have the frozen sand on the shore of a lake looking like this.
