The currently ongoing reforms to Make India Global Aviation Leader in times to come will likely have some very good consequence for Indians wishing to travel quickly but cheaply by air. It is proposed that flights of one hour or less will now cost only Rs 2500 following a cap that is proposed to be put on special routes. Here are some of the top measures that the new Civil Aviation Policy aims to put into practice:
Rs 2500 for one hour flights

The highlight of the proposed policy seems to be the Rs 2500 cap that is proposed to be placed on tickets fares for flights of one hour or less.
The 5/20 rule will be tweaked

This will make a difference to the smaller players in the aviation sector: so far Indian carriers could not fly to foreign locations unless they had been flying for over 5 years and operating a fleet of 20 aircraft or more.
International operations can start if domestic routes are increased

Domestic carriers can now fly to foreign locations it they increase the number of seats on domestic routes by 20%. Since flying to locations abroad is desirable for airlines, this result in a consequent increase in seats on domestic routes.
Ticket cancellation policy changes

It will be fixed that ticket cancellation charges cannot exceed basic fare (penalties and additional charges will not be permitted to be charged). Airlines will also have to refund the tax component of tickets if flights are cancelled and will also be liable to ensure refunds of tickets booked through travel agents etc. within specified times.
Excess baggage charge to come down

Every kilo above the permitted 15 kg limit (up to 20 kg) was costing us Rs 300. This will come down to Rs 100. Airlines will be free to charge what they decide beyond 20 kg.
Compensation in lieu of overbooking

If a flight is overbooked, passengers demanding a hotel room could be refused their demand. It is proposed that compensation of up to Rs 20,000 may be made subject to some terms and conditions.
Other measures proposed

The aim will be to improve regional connectivity within the country so there will be more flights to smaller destinations. Airline personnel will be made more aware about people with disabilities or limited mobility and passengers should be able to order a stretcher in advance if required.
