Sometimes a video or other content on social media goes viral not because it is hateful or shocking or angry-making, but for the opposite reason. A short video posted by filmmaker Vinod Kapri on Twitter went viral for all the right reasons – a young man with ambition, energy, a great work ethic and full of good humour to boot! Take a look:
He works in McDonald's and runs home each day at midnight from sector 16 where he works to Barola (Baraula) where he lives – about 10 km. When offered a meal, he refuses, because he will go home and cook for himself and his brother who is doing a night shift. When offered a ride, he refuses because it will affect his routine. He needs to train because he wants to join the army.
A lot of people were impressed with the diligent mindset, hardworking nature and good humour of the young man. They feel he has a bright future.
This is an inspiring young man, felt the tweeple – many hoped that this would positively influence their own kids. The video now has over 7M views
Right now the armed forces have lakhs of vacancies collectively; however there are many issues that make the recruitment process slow and inefficient says this social activist.
Some of the tweeple – like this veteran – pointed out that current government policies have halted intake of recruits, which will hinder the prospects to so many bright young people.
While people were appreciative of Pradeep’s positive outlook and ambition they had questions too. Why was it that a young man and his brother were forced to leave their home and even a hospitalised mother to come to Delhi in search of jobs?
The young man symbolizes hope and aspiration for a better life and also demonstrates the determination to work towards the ambitions he has.
The guy is on his nightly run and some random guy is bugging him with questions. Kudos to the kid for being polite and good humoured through it all, observes this commentator.
…Some random person offering a ride and a meal in the middle of the night? That could be perfectly innocent, but could also be seen as way creepy.
The guy runs at night – some suggested high-visibility or reflective clothing and others suggested good quality shoes.
NDTV’s senior editor Umashankar Singh tweeted this follow-up video. Where Pradeep Mehra is seen speaking to the reporter about the reaction to the video.
