PETA or the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is all about promoting the ethical, vegan lifestyle. This is great, except for the alarmist, often misleading videos the organisation puts out; their fanatical zeal in promoting what they see as the only right lifestyle choice. In the past, they quibbled about the use of some words and went head to head with Amul. Now they're putting out some really strange ads to try and convert people to their ideology.
PETA is largely seen as an organisation that is so ideologically driven that it is oblivious to commercial concerns and the livelihoods, often of some of the most underprivileged sections of society. They basically want millions of Indians to abandon dairy farming
It this rather laughable ‘business opportunity’ is evidence of PETA also being quite out of touch with reality, particularly Indian reality. It is a breathtaking lack of awareness that asks a hundred million Indians to switch their occupation to possibly fill the pockets of some multinationals indicates this tweet from the Amul MD.
Most Indian Twitter users basically told PETA to stuff their ideas where the sun doesn’t shine. Some have been asking for the ban of PETA in India because of their extreme views and proselytising fanaticism which seems to have no concern for the employment of millions, food cultures or personal choices.
PETA is now trying another tack – they are telling people that going vegan will improve their sex life. And it is just exceedingly weird.
This weirdly disturbing ad is not the only one – there is another PETA ad, with some rather graphic video, that tells us that we must all become vegan to ‘last longer’.
Stop trying to make veganism sexy said one tweet. Don’t waste money on ads, use it to save animals said another.
A lot of the tweeple were confused and just horrified.
PETA posted porn, said the tweeple – this is not untrue. So just anything to further the ideology? Ok then.
But very few.
It may not be in ‘good taste’ but PETA’s extremist views do in fact invite jeering of this sort where what appears to be a Playboy bunny is getting roasted here.
A lot of meat-eaters don’t take PETA at all seriously. Many simply decided to mock the organisation with tweets like this.
Lighten up, said the tweets. The problem is that in their evangelistic zeal to ‘covert’ people to what they see as the only ethical lifestyle, PETA shames, and scares and misinforms people.
Check out this earlier PETA tweet that seems to be saying that the tragic death of wildlife conservationist, television personality Steve Irwin is something that he somehow deserved. Even vegans are now fed up with PETA
People dislike the way that PETA members lecture people, share horrifying videos and misinformation, create public spectacles and even accost people on the streets. Apart from this, they are also seen as hypocritical in the way that they kill vast numbers of animals in ways they deem fit. They are known to have ties to extremist organisations. So perhaps PETA’s sexual fruit ad may go down well with their own devotees; however if they were hoping to convert meat-eaters such as me, I'm afraid all they get is my derision.
