“Pak Stars Leave” And Other Reactions To Uri

Earlier it was the Shiv Sena and now it is the MNS (Maharashtra Navnirman Sena) that make it their business to attack Pakistani artistes for any transgressions of Pakistan; whether it is incursions at the border, cease fire violations, diplomatic incidents or the horrific ambush by militants upon the Indian army at Uri. Read on to find out about the ultimatum the MNS delivered most recently and other top level attempts to draw a veil over recent bonhomie with our dangerous neighbour.

“Leave India within 48 hours….

….Or MNS will push you out” said Amey Khopkar of MNS Chitrapat Sena. Pak artistes such as Fawad Khan, Ali Zafar, Mahira Khan, Rahat Fateh Ali Khan, Imran Abbas and Mawra Hocane; many of whom have currently ongoing projects in India are being asked to leave.

There were many reactions of support for the MNS

With tension between India and Pak being at an all time high, security having been strengthened in areas such as Mumbai, many on Twitter supported the MNS’s ultimatum with the #SayNoToPakArtists hashtag.

Many felt that Pak artistes should have spoken out against the Uri attacks

Many felt that if they are earning their bread and butter in Indian, they should have taken a stand against the cowardly ambush attack in Uri.

Some even took this oath:

Never to watch a movie in which Pakistani singers and actors have worked; #SayNoToPakArtists.

Many thought that it was pointless to threaten artistes

Artistes are soft targets; the real issue is terror. Targeting Pakistani artistes who work in India solves nothing felt many. One sarcastic Hansal Mehta tweet said: “MNS for next central govt. In one master stroke they have solved the India Pakistan problem. After all it is artistes who provoke attacks.

Some pointed out this fact:

Those wanting to teach the Pakistanis a lesson were not offering to enlist with the army and were not wanting to engage with the enemy on the battlefield… merely doing the easy thing by threatening Pak actors.

Veteran journalist Shekhar Gupta had these views

He reiterated the futility of the ‘ban’ and losses that will accrue to Indians and had other suggestions for punishing Pak for terror.

This was a telling reaction

The rows of empty seats as Pakistani PM Nawaz Sharif addressed the UN told its own story. The call for Pak isolation following the Uri attacks seems to have found a supporting echo perhaps - a more effective way draw attention to Pakistan's transgressions and have it declared a terrorist state... rather more effective than hounding actors?

And then there was this rumor

A satirical piece spoke about how मोदी का नवाज़ को मुहतोड़ जवाब, साथ ली हुई सभी सेल्फी की डिलीट (how the Prime Minister Modi give a fitting reply to Sharif by deleting all selfies with him!)
