New Roads, Bridges and Other Progress for 2020 Expo

Right now, everything in Dubai seems to be gearing up for the 2020 World Expo. It isn’t just the sustainable architecture and the pavilions representing various countries that are grabbing all the attention. There are new hotels coming up to accommodate the huge influx of visitors that the Expo will attract and there also other exciting developments going on in the city.

New roads

About 22 km of roads and bridges leading up to the expo site have been constructed and recently completed. These constitute phases 3 and 4 of the development project, out of six phases in all. These are now open to traffic according to an announcement made by the RTA.

Biggest ongoing road projects

It is estimated that pressure on roads will increase during the expo. The authorities are showing foresight in ensuing that the transport capacity of the city is increased well before the start of the expo.

Benefit to road users

The capacity of certain roads is set to become more than double. The bridges will also help ease traffic snarls and crowding at certain intersections. The construction of four flyovers and the elevation of the Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street will ease traffic congestion for road users.

This tweet from the official handle of the Dubai Media Office shows the latest aerial footage of the progress being made at the expo site. This includes in particular, the spectacular falcon shaped UAE pavilion.

Healthcare innovations

Apart from the other business that will be conducted at the expo and the expected uptick in tourism that it will generate, the Expo will also feature healthcare innovations. These will include AI and VR integration into medicine, robotic surgery, conferences on surgery, paediatrics and orthopaedics. The future of wearable tech and 3D printing will also be showcased at the expo.

Energy

Energy conservation and green energy solutions are other aspects that the expo will look at closely. For instance, the Singapore pavilion will employ various means to create a net-zero energy space.
