Love Diwali? This Will Resonate With You

Here is how much I loved Diwali as a kid --- the firecracker shopping is something I looked forward to for days. After the crackers were bought I would guard them jealously; even hide them under my bed while sleeping. I would live in anticipation of bursting them, lighting the diyas and doing the rangoli. If you, like me, love Diwali, you will identify with some of these Diwali memes:

Diwali is almost here!

Some people have just about got used to 2019 and lo and behold! It is almost Diwali! It is the end of summer and already the festive season is in full swing!

It’s that time of year

This is the time for buying gifts, new gadgets, appliances for the home etc. --- it is the time of year when this happens.

Diwali bonus!

Luckily, this is also the time of year when we receive a Diwali bonus --- well some of us do.

Some of us love crackers!

I may be an adult but I still enjoy bursting crackers just as much as my kids. Not so much the noisy bombs, but the beautiful anaar, chakli, phooljhadi are a lovely sight to behold. And the smell of firecrackers – love that as well!

Also true

Many will say that bursting firecrackers is akin to burning money. Well this is not inaccurate --- after all, we do literally blow up thousands in minutes

Pollution-free Diwali

For several years now, people have been campaigning for a noiseless Diwali --- mindful of older people, sick people, kids studying for exams and even traumatised animals.

Cracker-free Diwali?

There was been a lot of outrage against the court ruling on firecrackers for Diwali. Some of us are more willing than others to follow those rules.

Expectation vs reality

The expectation is getting dressed up and celebrating Diwali with all our dear ones. The reality could be a little different

Diwali greetings are coming

Some of us love those long, thoughtful greetings wishing us good luck, health and prosperity – others, not so much.

Its rangoli time

Some of us make elaborate, beautiful traditional rangoli. Others do this.

A thought for them

Our faujis are out there keeping us safe; away from their families, making the best of tough living conditions and constant danger. So while we offer best wishes to everyone for Diwali, special wishes for these special men and women in uniform as well.
