We cannot watch the news these days without watching horrifying stories of ceasefire violations, the burning down of schools, attacks on civilians, the martyrdom of our soldiers and additional terror threats to add to all this. India has come under threat in various ways:
The US embassy has warned American visitors about possible ISIS attacks upon ‘targets’ in India. There has been a warning of possible attacks upon places such as markets, religious /tourist spots, festival venues etc .
Since the perceived threat is to westerners visiting India, close US ally Australia has also issued a travel advisory to its citizens visiting India; particular J&K, the North East and Chhattisgarh.
In the recent past, there had been reports of a Nice style attack planned by ISIS operatives in Kerala which was foiled by NIA, the elite anti terror agency of India. The plan was a launch an attack at a rally and to kill judges and political leaders.
Among the latest episodes of hostilities along the line of control the Indian Border Security Force or BSF foiled what is being called a massive infiltration bid by terrorists from the Pakistani side along the international border in Kathua district.
The current ceasefire violations at the border and the LOC have meant that civilians living close to the border are coming under fire. People are being attacked, getting wounded and even killed; many others have had to flee their homes.
On Tuesday, in violation of the ceasefire shelling from the Pakistani side killed 8 including an infant and children aged 5 and 7.
Normal life has been crippled in the Kashmir valley for months now. Adding to the problems is the fact that those who want unrest to continue also want the people of Kashmir to remain uneducated. Some 27 schools, most of them government run, have been torched and this is adding to the abnormal environment in the valley.
