Remember how the founder of Alibaba.com and one of the most successful businessmen in the world, Jack Ma was thought to have been ‘disappeared’ in mysterious circumstances? Now the Chinese business tycoon has finally made a public appearance after three months. Twitter was again in overdrive because #JackMa is now lost and found.
Where is Jack Ma was the question on the minds of many.
This handle that claims to be a reporter for ‘China state-affiliated media’ tweeted to say that Ma has not disappeared; that he had had a video conference with 100 village teachers.
This is typically done in person but due to COVID supposedly, this is being done via video.
People were far from convinced. The video could have been filmed at any time before the ‘disappearance’. Plus with the kind of technology available these days it is easy to create a fake.
The video of Jack Ma addressing teachers appeared in other publications and presumably has been authenticated.
It was meme time!
People were making memes when Ma disappeared and are at it now that he has appeared as well.
The tweeple were sure that his mother would have been delighted.
After having come up on the radar of the draconian Chinese authorities it may simply have been prudent to lay low for a while.
Jack Ma is alive, said the tweeple.
Speculation was rife that the Chinese Communist Party likely made sure that Ma appeared when he did and said what he did.
Some felt that the communist party may not have been behind the disappearance.
Perhaps the Chinese authorities were also clueless about Ma’s whereabouts because he chose to lay low until the controversy surrounding him blew over.
Experts believe that Jack Ma’s influence over and popularity among the Chinese people is seen by the government as a threat. Hence the authorities feel that it is important to keep the man and his power in check.
It seems that Jack Ma is alive and well right now. However the tweeple aren’t too sure about this being the case in future.
