Rain at this time of the year isn't a bad thing in itself unless one is a farmer worried about the Rabi crop. In fact, the average Delhi-wasi is delighted that the rain will dramatically reduce pollution levels and we will breathe better quality air at least for a while. But the thunder and lightning were a bit scary. How cold will it get now – this is also scaring Delhi now after the heavy December showers!
If there is snow in the mountains, can rains in the plains be far behind?
…Showers! And not a mild drizzle, mind you. It was an angry downpour with attendant drama of a proper thunderstorm that lasted all through the evening and night on Thursday. And then there was more rain on Friday as well.
The thunder was so loud at times, it sounded like an explosion. One woke up in the middle of the night to sounds of crashing thunder.
One went back to sleep thinking about cleaner air.
People are getting ready to freeze their butts off now that it has rained so much. And they are not looking forward to it.
Cannot understand some freak weather occurrence? Blame the Western Disturbance! It is always the WD to blame.
Of course, there were waterlogging and traffic jams because of the rain and hail in some places.
There were flight diversions and delays as a result of the unseasonal downpour.
Some just wanted the rain to go away. Winter rain can get dismal and gloomy and depressing for some.
No matter how cold it’s going to get, the sight, sound and smell of the rain never fails to evoke joy and delight.
There is a special joy in being tucked up cosy in bed while the sound of the rain outside soothes the soul to sleep.
For us Indians, rain is always a happy-making, life-giving blessing. Whether it comes in June or in December, Delhi rain never fails to lighten the heart and gladden the spirit.
