Full contact sports that require you to be both mentally tough while also being agile and attacking are hard to excel at. And Wushu is just the kind of sport you want to win at if you wish to establish your credentials as a top exponent of Martial Arts. Recently, India's young gun from Manipur Jason Yengkhom created history at World Junior Wushu Championships recently. Here's all you need to know about the young rising Wushu star from India:
Originating from China with an intricate focus on a wide array of physically challenging grinds such as striking, grappling and throwing, Wushu has quietly excelled alongside widely popular full-contact martial art forms of Taekwondo, Jujutsu and Karate. But still, the silently glowing full-contact fighting form remains less documented and surprisingly even less followed when compared to other established martial art forms.
A wide array of acting and martial arts talents such as Jackie Chan, Jet Li, Michael Jai White and Wen Qing have been renowned for their expertise at the sport that started picking from 1928 in China. The international Wushu Federation however, has been working swiftly since 1991 to bring more global attention to Wushu, steadily increasing in global pockets outside of Asia.
Jason Yengkhom from Manipur is a name that's on every one's mind at the moment from the martial art fraternity. The young Manipuri boy scripted history when he won a gold medal at the ongoing 6th World Junior Wushu Championships 2016 at Bulgaria.

Quick and agile, and looking in imperious touch, Manipur's Jason Yengkhom just didn't allow his Chinese opponent to settle one bit in the decisive contest of the World Junior Wushu Championships. Moving swiftly in his quick moving feet, Jason landed some beautiful kicks and blows to defeat his Chinese opponent who looked never settled in the final Wushu bout.
Son of Geetchandra and Memcha, Jason Yengkhom also happens to be a four time national champion and a silver medalist in Wushu Sanshou. In the 2016 World Junior Championships, Jason overcame grueling competitors from Egypt and Indonesia to emerge as a consistent striker in a tournament that's second to none in excitement and agility.
Wushu enjoys a strong organizational foundation in India all thanks to the Wushu Association of India, the official body entrusted with the propagation, development and further establishment of the sport. Due to the enormous efforts of Late Anand Kacker, the sport reached India where it is now nationally managed by the Wushu Association of India which is working steadily to lend popularity to intricate Wushu forms called Taulou and Sashou.
Thanks to the sincere efforts of Wushu exponents in Asia who added more gravitas to the hitherto less known martial art form and the consistent efforts of Wushu Association of India, the country today is no stranger to the sport.
Some of the best Wushu academies in India happen to be at Mumbai and Delhi NCR with established Wushu schools such as Wushu Kungfu Federation of India, New Kungfu Wushu Martial Arts Academy being the sought after places for a growing number of young interested exponents.
