Yoga is no longer just something that Indians do to keep fit. It is also not just something that new age western hippies choose to make a part of their lifestyles. Yoga is now the fitness mantra of the whole world and something that the Gulf region has also adopted with enthusiasm. As such, Yoga Day is observed in the UAE very widely.
The Indian embassy and the consulate in the UAE will be engaged in various initiatives to promote yoga and to inform people about its many benefits. Celebrating yoga day on and around 21st June, this has been an ongoing effort over the last five years.
Photo shoots of people doing yoga at the Emirates Palace, Etihad Towers and Louvre Abu Dhabi Museum demonstrate the level of enthusiasm for yoga among the UAE officials and the culture ministry; who are lending support to the event.
On 20th June 2019, there will be an event hosted at the Umm Al Emarat Pak in Abu Dhabi. Participants will be permitted entry and parking will be provided with yoga mats and tshirts on a first come first served basis. The timings will be from 7 PM onwards and Shaikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan will be the Chief Guest.
Yoga Day is now an annual feature at this location and people arrive here in their droves to perform yoga together. On 21st June 2019, Zabeel Park will host a yoga event from 6 PM onwards. There will be a competition at 7 PM and from 7.30 onwards, all participants will perform yoga in tandem.
The cricket stadium in Sharjah will also be hosting yoga day events from 6 to 10 PM on 21st of June under the aegis of the Indian Association Sharjah. Similar events will also be held in Ajman (at the premises of the Indian Association Ajman), Umm Al Quwain (at the Etihad Hall at 11 am on June 22), Ras Al Khaimah (at the football ground of the American University at 6.30pm on June 22 ) and Fujairah. Competitions, raffles and prizes will also be a part of the events held at various places to mark Yoga Day.
Various yoga studios and luxury spas will also be organising events to mark Yoga Day. There will be a yoga and wellbeing retreat at Covering Concepts at the Dubai Design District. YogaOne in Abu Dhabi will offer complimentary yoga sessions to mark the event. Bodytree Studio, Abu Dhabi, The Hot House, Al Zeina, Anantara Eastern Mangroves, Cove Beach, Al Jalila Children’s Hospital, Al Jaddaf, Dubai, Caesars Palace, Bluewaters Island, Dubai, and the Enlighten Yoga Centre, Oud Metha, Dubai will also be hosting events for International Yoga Day.
